Pilates FAQ

What should I wear?
You will need to wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely – tracksuit bottoms or leggings with a long sleeved top or t-shirt are usually ideal. Avoid bulky, baggy clothes that might prevent me from seeing how you move. You do not need trainers as you will be exercising in socks or your bare feet.

It’s been a long time since I exercised – is Pilates for me?
You should always check with your doctor before starting a Pilates programme just to be on the safe side. A good teacher will make sure you take things slowly at first and will give you the opportunity to learn and progress at your own pace.

Will Pilates help me lose weight?
Pilates is a great way to “shape up” – it will help tone your muscles and your improved posture will make you walk tall and look more trim. However to lose weight you will need to think about your calorie intake and include a safe aerobic activity such as power walking, running, swimming or cycling. Choose the activity you enjoy the most and remember some of the movements and basic principles from your Pilates classes.

Can I practice Pilates at home?
Absolutely! You don’t have to be in a studio or have special equipment to do a Pilates work-out. Aim to do a Pilates session every other day and try to bring Pilates awareness into your everyday life.
